Govt providing all possible assistance for farmers: Rashid

ISLAMABAD, Sep 28 (APP) Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid says the
government is taking practical steps to  address the challenges faced
by the agriculture sector.

Talking to media outside the parliament house in Islamabad on
Wednesday evening, he said a relief package worth three hundred and
forty one billion rupees has been announced for the uplift of this
sector.He said subsidy has been provided to the farmers in
electricity, fertilizers and diesel.

Information Minister said that in 2013 the rate of Urea fertilizer was
2050 rupees per bag and now the rate is 1400 rupees. Similarly DAP
price in 2013 was 3900 rupees and now its price is 2650 rupees. He
said per unit price of electricity for tube wells in 2013 was 10
rupees and 50 paisa but now this is 5 rupees 50 paisa today. He said
127 billion rupees subsidy has been given on electricity to farmers.

The Information Minister said that the Prime Minister has announced to
grant five thousand rupees to the growers of rice and cotton having
holding less than 12.5 acres. He said the federal and the provincial
governments will share this amount at fifty fifty ratio.Information
Minister said the federal and Punjab governments have paid this amount
while Sindh government has not provided this assistance to the farmers
so far.

Pervaiz Rashid said Pakistan People’s Party and Pakistan
Tehreek-e-Insaf want to disrupt the agenda of progress and development
of the government but they will fail in their designs.
