Pakistan, Azerbaijan to work together to achieve shared goals: PM

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Oct 15 (APP): Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif on Saturday resolved that Pakistan and Azerbaijan would work together at bilateral and multilateral levels to achieve their  shared goals.
During a meeting with Speaker of Milli Mejlis (Parliament of Azerbaijan) Ogtay Asadov at the parliament along with his delegation,  the prime minister said the leadership level contacts between the  two countries would give impetus to bilateral economic, defense  and cooperation in diverse fields.
The prime minister, who was on three-day visit to Azerbaijan at the invitation of Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev, visited Milli Mejlis.
Speaker Ogtay Asadov received the prime minister on arrival at parliament and briefed him on the working of the institution.
During the meeting, the speaker said that Pakistan and Azerbaijan enjoyed fraternal relations based on shared history  and culture.
“Your visit will immensely enhance the bilateral relations between our two countries. I am confident that your meetings with the President and Prime Minister of Azerbaijan were fruitful. Pakistan’s most valued support to Azerbaijan on issues of our national interest, is held in the greatest esteem”, the speaker remarked.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif thanked the speaker for providing him the opportunity to visit the Azerbaijan’s Parliament.
“We have very strong fraternal relations. We had extremely fruitful sessions with the president and the prime minister of Azerbaijan which provided valuable opportunities to consider
enhancing cooperation with Azerbaijan in various fields. I was honoured to receive the honorary doctorate degree conferred by  the rector of Baku State University,” the prime minister said  and extended his felicitations on the National Day of Azerbaijan Republic falling on the October 18.
Nawaz Sharif said the two governments of Pakistan and Azerbaijan had vibrant democracies and closer cooperation between the parliaments of both countries would strengthen governmental level efforts to enhance economic cooperation.
He said that he would convey the speaker’s invitation to the Chairman Senate and Speaker of the National Assembly of  Pakistan who would be happy to visit Azerbaijan.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said Pakistan appreciated Azerbaijan’s continued support to Pakistan on Kashmir issue.
The mutual support of both the countries for each other on the issues of Nagorono Karabakh and Kashmir was a testimony to  their strong relations, he added.
He said India had unleashed terror on innocent civilian of Occupied Kashmir and killed more than 112 people, blinded  nearly 200 by use of pellet guns and injured about 10, 000 others  in the massive violations of human rights by Indian forces only  during the last three months.
India had deliberately escalated tension on the Line of Control to divert the world’s attention from the Kashmir issue, he said, adding that the implementation on UN’s Resolutions  should not be selective.
