Davis Cup ‘gateway to international sports in Pakistan’

ISLAMABAD, Feb 1 (APP): Pakistan top seed tennis players termed “Davis Cup” a gateway to international sports activity in the country.
Pakistan will host “Davis Cup” tier after 12 years on February 3 at Sports Complex Islamabad, where country’s top tennis players will compete with Iranian players.
Addressing the press conference regarding Davis Cup, Malik Rashid non-playing team captain along with Aisam Ul Haq, Aqeel Khan, Abid Ali Akbar and Abid Mustaq termed Pakistan a safe country for international sports.
Pakistan top player Aisam Ul Haq said that the event will not only uplift tennis but also uplift all other sports in the country.
“I am very much excited playing in front of home crowd in home court”, Aisam Ul Haq expressed his feelings.
Aisam ul Haq said he is fully prepared to defeat Iranian rivals, “we have never lost a single tier since 1998”, he said.
Aqeel Khan said that hard court will favour us, as Iranians are trained in clay and grass courts. He said we have defeated much better players then Iranian, we are fully prepared to beat them.
Malik Rashid non-playing team captain said that in past Pakistan was not given an opportunity to host international event which has affected the player’s performance.
Iranian contingent includes Seifollah Behzadpour coach, Mostafa Ataei trainer, Mehrshad Poursaeed Esfahani physician, Saeed Ahmadvand team captain, players including Anoosha Shahgholi, Shahin Khaledan, Alborz Akhavan, Amir Hossein Badi, Nadaf Sachani Hamidreza.
