Ambassador Aizaz hold meetings with congressmen

CHICAGO July 25 (APP): Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry, Ambassador of Pakistan to the United States who is currently visiting Chicago held various meetings with political leadership of the region. During his meeting with Congressman Peter Roskam, Ambassador Chaudhry apprised him of Pakistan’s sacrifices in the global war against terrorism. He also briefed him about fast economic development of the country. During his meeting with Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky, Ambassador Chaudhry praised her efforts in the Congress for woman empowerment and briefed her about the active role women were playing in Pakistan and contributing to the nation. He also briefed her about major strides made in promotion of human rights and freedom of opinion under a democratically elected government in Pakistan.

Ambassador Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry also signed Sialkot-Bolingbrook Sister City Agreement with the Mayor of Bolingbrook on behalf of the Municipal Corporation of Sialkot and said that this agreement would be a landmark development in the seven decades long Pak-US relations. He also thanked the Mayor Roger C. Claar of Bolingbrook for his all-out efforts in facilitating and encouraging Pakistani-American community of Bolingbrook. He said that he was proud to know that Pakistani Flag Hoisting ceremony was being organized in Bolingbrook every year for the last 27 years.

Ambassador Chaudhry said that signing of Sister City Agreement between Sialkot and Bolingbrook will create an array of new opportunities in the field of business and would greatly improve contacts between these cities.

Ambassador Aizaz Ahmed Chaudhry was also keynote speaker at the Northeastern University in Chicago during the afternoon. The event was open to public and attracted throngs of listeners in addition to University student and faculty. Ambassador Chaudhry briefed the students about Pakistan-US relations, Pakistan’s relations with its neighbors and geo-political importance of the country. The event concluded with a Q & A session. The University President Dr. Richard Helldobler then hosted a reception in Ambassador Chaudhry’s honour which was attended by senior members of the faculty.

Ambassador also held a series of interactions with Pakistani-American Community living in the greater Chicago area.

This visit by Ambassador Chaudhry is his first visit after assuming office in Washington. The Pakistani-American Community immensely appreciated Ambassador Chaudhry’s initiative to reaching out and listening to their concerns. APP Hamza/VNS Chicago
