‘Craft is Knowledge’ programme kicks off

ISLAMABAD, Sept 18 (APP): The National Institute of Folk and Traditional Heritage (Lok Virsa) in collaboration with Federal Directorate of Education (Training Wing) here Monday launched a new programme series on “Craft is Knowledge” at Heritage Museum.
The objective of the programme is to promote traditional skills, encourage traditional practitioners/master artisans to inculcate awareness among younger generation, especially children about the indigenous folk culture of Pakistan.
Spekaing on the occasion, Federal Secretary, Ministry of Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage, Sardar Ahmad Nawaz Sukhera, said that Pakistani nation enjoyed rich culture and heritage and there was need to educate the new generation about its importance.
Sukhera said that the students participating in this training were lucky that they were being provided opportunities to develop hobbies, while in the past the focus was on studies or sports activities.
He urged the parents to encourage their children to develop hobbies as they are vital part of human lives. He said that we should be proud of our rich art, culture and heritage.
Executive Director Lok Virsa, Dr Fauzia Saeed said the training was being given in collaboration with FDE and best teachers were imparting training to the students.
The first programme for September 2017 will focus on “Truck Art”. Master artisans in truck art will be invited to demonstrate their skills and provide hands-on training to children (age-group: 7-16 years) at Heritage Museum from September 18 to 22.
The launching ceremony featured live folk musical performances, cultural shows and national songs.
