ISLAMABAD, Jan 18 (APP): President Dr. Arif Alvi has emphasized the need to take emergency steps to address the issue of increasing water shortage in the country.
Addressing National Consultative Workshop on drought organized by National Disaster Management Authority in Islamabad today (Friday), he said an awareness campaign to disseminate information about the importance and conservation of water needs to be launched.
The President said the issue of water scarcity in Balochistan is turning into an alarming situation.
He said new approaches of water conservation are need of the hour.
He further said that less water intensive crops should be introduced to save this precious commodity for other uses.
The President said potential of rain water harvesting also needs to be effectively utilized.
