PM vows for creating new tax culture & Ease of doing business

ISLAMABAD, Feb 20 (APP): Prime Minister Imran Khan on Wednesday said that the government is working on a comprehensive plan to promote tax culture, reduce tax rate, and encourage tax payers and bringing maximum people to the tax net.

He was addressing a ceremony in Islamabad under the auspices of Federal Board of Revenue to award appreciation certificates to top tax payers of the country in different categories.

Imran Khan said under the plan, mindset of the entire nation will be changed to pay taxes to materialize the idea of forefathers of the country to make Pakistan a truly welfare state.

The Prime Minister regretted that at present only 1.7 million people are paying taxes in the country with a population of over 210 million.

He said our tax system is the most complicated one with poor structure the world over and we need to immediately revamp it with revolutionary reforms in our economy, FBR and the taxation system.

Imran Khan said the government has decided to introduce digitalization to facilitate the tax payers and reducing the undue intervention of FBR officials in tax collection.

He directed the Ministry of Finance and FBR to focus on promoting direct taxation to collect wealth from the elite class and spend it on the welfare of poor people who are paying equal taxes through indirect tax system.
