ISLAMABAD, Mar 14 (APP): Senate Functional Committee on the Problems of Less Developed Areas held on Tuesday under the Chairperson Senator Muhammad Usman Kakar at Parliament House. During the meeting different issues discussed as per agenda of the meeting.
Committee was informed that an amount of Rs 3139 million had been allocated under Aghaz-e- Haqooq-e-Balochistan package to award 600 scholarships for MPhil and PhD students of the province.
The Higher Education Commission (HEC) had allocated Rs 2216 million for awarding as many as 200 foreign scholarships for higher education to the students of the province in the world’s top universities. However, an amount of Rs 750 million were allocated for 400 scholarships at national level.
HEC officials wile briefing the committee on the progress of development on Livestock University in Musa Khail and Forest University in Ziarat said that the feasibility report had been submitted to the provincial government for the land allocation.
HEC officials told the committee that an amount of Rs 2981 million has been allocated for the 1950 students of Balochistan as many as 1250 students of under graduation and 700 for post graduate degree.
The committee was informed about another package of 2000 scholarships, out of these total scholarships, around 1300 scholarships were allocated for undergraduate while 700 post graduate degree programmes would be award to the students of former Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) and Balochistan.
The committee was also briefed on the Prime Minister’s initiative of one year programme to learn Chinese language for the students of Gawadar. The criteria set for the programme demanded students to be a graduate with maximum age upto 30 years.
The aim of these scholarships was to ensure human resource development in all fields of life for the socio-economic development of the country.
Senators and senior officers of different departments attended the meeting.
