Ukraine Celebrates 25th Independence Day


ISLAMABAD, Sep 21(APP):  The Ukraine Embassy here on Wednesday celebrated 25th anniversary of its country’s independence achieved after struggle of 1,000 years. Minister for Defence Production Rana Tanveer Hussain, who was the chief guest, cut the cake along with Ukrainian ambassador Volodymyr Lakomov, ambassadors and representatives of different countries based in the federal capital.

The celebration started with playing of national anthems of Pakistan and Ukraine. Addressing the participants, the minister said Ukraine and Pakistan were enjoying cordial relations, and his country has great desire to further strengthen them especially in the field of defence production. He said Pakistan valued its relations with Ukraine and believed that with the passage of time, both the countries would develop meaningful and long term relationship through enhanced bilateral cooperation.

“Pakistan has keen desire to consolidate existing relations with Ukraine in all sectors, particularly in trade, economy, defence, culture, science and technology. I appreciate Pakistan-Ukraine’s existing cooperation in defence production,” Rana Tanveer said. However, he said, there was a great room for future cooperation between the two countries, and as the government of Pakistan was focusing on creating sustained economic growth for which “we count on the support of friends like Ukraine”.

He asked the Ukrainian envoy to identify more areas of bilateral interest so that the collaboration could be taken to new heights. “Ties between the two countries have been very warm and strong, and growing stronger with each passing day,” he said. Ambassador of Ukraine Volodymyr Lakomov said his country struggled for 1,000 years to get its unique identity in the modern world, thanking the world community for supporting Ukraine at international level. He also shared Ukraine’s steady progress in diverse fields that resulted in improved national economy.
