PM lauds FAO’s role in rehabilitation of TDPs

ISLAMABAD, Oct 6 (APP): Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, Thursday acknowledged the contribution of Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in poverty reduction and food security in Pakistan.
“We deeply appreciate the role of FAO in emergency and rehabilitation assistance for the Temporarily Displaced Persons (TDPs). The livelihood restoration programmes of the organization in disaster-affected areas also deserve our profound appreciation,” the Prime Minister said in a meeting with FAO Director General Jose Graziano da Silva here at PM House.
According to a the PM Office statement, the Premier Nawaz Sharif said the government would extend all possible cooperation to supporting FAO’s activities related to food security.
Jose Graziano da Silva said that FAO strives for achieving food security for all to make sure people had regular access to enough high quality food.
He said the organization’s efforts were aimed at empowering people to lead active and healthy lives through sustainable management and utilization of land, water, air, climate and genetic resources.
He also apprised the Prime Minister on various ongoing projects of FAO in various parts of Pakistan.
The visiting delegation included Attache de Cabinet FAO, Ms Kae Mihara and FAO Country Representative to Pakistan Patrick T Evans. Minister National Food Security and Research, Sikandar Hayat Khan Bosan was also present in the meeting.
