Aisam, Aqeel won men’s single at Davis Cup tie

ISLAMABAD, Feb 3 (APP): After twelve years long wait Pakistan hosts the first round of “Davis Cup” Asia Oceania Group 2 at Pakistan Sports Complex, Islamabad.
Pakistani seed players Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi and Aqeel Khan on Friday overwhelmed Iranian players in men single at first round of Asia Oceania Group 2 matches, leading the round with 2-0.
Two matches were played today on the Hard outdoor surface in which Aqeel Khan won all sets with 7-6,6-4,6-2 against Shahin Khaledan and Aisam-ul-Haq clinched victory against Anoosha Shahgholi with  6-4, 6-2, 6-2.
Aqeel Khan Struggled in the first set against Shahin Khaledan when scoreboard leveled by 6-6, it seems to be the only chance Shahin had but Aqeel Khan finished aggressively by 7-6 points.
Shahin couldn’t handle the next two sets and stand lost with 7-6, 6-4, and 6-2.
In second rubber, Pakistani top player Aisam-ul-Haq thrashed Anoosha Shahgoli in all three sets. Shahgoli looked nervous from the start only managed 4 against Aisam’s 6 (6-4) in the first set.
Shahgoli couldn’t handle Aisam’s strokes; he had no way to tackle Aisam’s tricky strikes.
Men’s double will be played tomorrow, Pakistani players Muhammad Abid and Muhammad Abid Ali Khan Akbar will play against Alborz Akhavan and Hamid Reza Nadaf from Iran.
International Tennis Federation (ITF) officials including referee Stephane Apostolou, chair umpire Shahzad Akhtar Alvi, Chair Umpire Ali L.J. Al-Mutair, officials from Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF), officials from Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) and people from all walks of life were present on the occasion.
