Standing Committee asks action against corrupt officers of DPP

KARACHI, Feb. 20 (APP): The National Assembly’s Standing
Committee on National Food Security and Research has asked
the Federal Government to take action against the former officials
of Department of Plant Protection (DPP) who were involved in
corruption.
The Standing Committee meeting was chaired by MNA Malik Shakir Bashir
Awan held here on Monday.
The Director General, DPP Syed Waseem ul Hassan briefed the committee
about the matters pertaining to import of harmful  Agro Pesticides for Agriculture Sector by the provincial government. This is an international matter, provinces cannot handle it, the committee observed.
The meeting was informed that Pakistan exports Rice to 140
Countries, Mango to 57 countries and Citrus to 58 countries.
The officials of DPP requested the committee to play its role for
legislation on Standardization and import of pesticide and seed.
The chairman of the committee assured that strict action will be
recommended against DPP officials involved in corruption and allowing
import of harmful pesticides for their personal gains.
The committee members also appreciated the performance of
DG, DPP Waseem ul Hassan.
Members of the Committee included Choudhry Iftikhar Nazir, Chaudhry
Nazeer Ahmad, Tahir Iqbal Ch, Rao Muhammad Ajmal Khan, Ms. Shahnaz Saleem,
Ms.Perveen Masood Bhatti and Muhammad Sulman Baloch.
