Govt takes steps for promotion of sports: Ahsan Iqbal

KARACHI, Oct 09 (APP): Interior Minister, Ahsan Iqbal on Monday

said that the government was taking various steps for the promotion of sports activities in the country.

Talking to media after meeting with the players and organizers of the

“Nishan-e-Haider Hockey Tournament-2017”, at Hockey Club of Pakistan here,he said that the funds had been allocated in this PSDP to lay

synthetic astroturfs in nine cities in the country so as to groom the

players from the grass root level.

He said that the “Nishan-e-Haider Hockey Tournament-

2017, has brought the international hockey players to Pakistan, to

participate in the sports event, which is like first drop of the rain.

He said that the World-XI Cricket team will also visit Pakistan in

November this year to play matches in Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad.

The matches of the Pakistan Hockey league will also be organised

in April next year, he added.

The Interior Minister congratulated the countrymen, specially the

Karachiites on resumption of sports activities.

He told a questioner that efforts were being made with the

coordination of the Pakistan Hockey Federation for job placement of

the hockey players, so that the players can pay full attention and

devotion to their professional sports skills.

He said that Inter-University Olympic will be organised this year

first time in the history of Pakistan.

Earlier, on his arrival, the Interior Minister took round of

the ground and met with the players and event organizers.
