Marriyum reaffirms government commitment for achieving SDGs

Islamabad, Nov 14 (APP): Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb has reaffirmed government’s commitment towards achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Addressing a ceremony in connection with world hand washing day in Islamabad on Tuesday, she said the federal and provincial governments are paying attention to bringing improvements in education and health sectors as well as water and sanitation.

Marriyum Aurangzeb said Radio Pakistan and Pakistan Television are also playing their role in this regard.

Addressing the ceremony Minister for Education and Professional Training Baligh-ur-Rehman said new syllabus for class one to five would be introduced in federal educational institutions from the next academic year with focus on hygiene and cleanliness.

The Minister said the new syllabus is also designed to inculcate the democratic culture and global citizenship concepts among the students.

He said cleanliness has also been incorporated in the Sustainable Development Goals.

Engineer Baligh-ur-Rehman said during tenure of the present Government, apart from increase in GDP growth rate and improvement in law and order situation, comprehensive initiatives have been taken in the education sector as well.

He said for the first time four million students were enrolled in schools in three years between 2013 and 2016.

The Minister said under Prime Minister’s reform programme, a model toilet programme for girl schools is also being launched on experimental basis.
