ISLAMABAD, Mar 6 (APP): President Dr. Arif Alvi on Wednesday urged the country’s health experts and professionals to play their role in creating awareness about prevention of diseases, particularly communicable diseases, among the masses to help achieve the goal of a healthy society.
He was addressing the convocation ceremony of the Rawal Institute of Health Sciences here at the Convention Center.
The President said besides focusing on the treatment of patients suffering from various diseases, doctors should also create awareness about prevention measures such as cleanliness, sanitation and non-smoking.
He said the Holy Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) also stressed upon cleanliness, as a major component of of Islamic faith.
The President called upon the graduating doctors and dentists to play their role in creating a healthy society, as they owe to the country and their parents who invested in their education.
He said that educated people including doctors, who had the distinction over uneducated ones, had the responsibility to serve people and their country.
The President also quoted a Hadith of Holy Prophet (PBUH) and said the knowledge, which just served the worldly purposes, would not benefit the human hereafter.
He said the people leaving behind – after death – three things including noble children, noble deeds and the education benefitting people, would be blessed by Allah Almighty with bounties in the life hereafter.
The President said also urged the people related with medical profession to focus on early diagnosis of diseases like breast cancer and said Pakistan had 50% mortality rate in breast cancer as against an average of 3% in the world.
Dr. Alvi referred to an article published in the New York Times (Abolishing Billionaires” which highlighted the unjust distribution of wealth as a challenge by mentioning that 26 billionaires owned half of the world’s wealth.
He said it did not mean that billionaires should be abolished but the article highlighted the challenge of accumulation of wealth at individual levels.
The President said that like the public-office holders, the health professionals and doctors, who had opted this sacred profession, should abide by their oath of serving people and do not indulge in just minting money and protecting their personal interests.
