WASHINGTON, July 22 (APP): Prime Minister Imran Khan on Monday said government was committed to provide conducive business environment in Pakistan. He said education, Industrialization, agriculture and tax collection is the major areas of reforms.
During his address at United States Institute of Peace (USIP), the prime minister said in 1960s Pakistan’s industry was equal to industrial volume of four countries and declined afterwards. However, he said the government was taking steps to encourage industrialization in the country and was giving incentives in that regard.
Prime Minister informed the audience that taxpaying tendency was also too low in the country to contribute to the national economy. He said only 1.5 million people paid taxes which was marginal with respect to country’s population.
He said country’s debt was raised magnificently in last ten years from Rs 6.0 trillion to Rs. 30.0 trillion by mafias. We have established an inquiry commission to investigate where the money has been spent, he added.
Prime Minister informed that poverty reduction in the country was also one of the big challenges for which government has allocated considerable budget.
Moreover, he told audience that present government is also acquiring technologies from the Europe and China for better yields.
On education sector, the prime minister said the government was focusing to implement similar syllabus in educational institutions. He said the government also rendering to bring 2.5 million children who were studying in religious schools (Madrassas).
