Colombo, Sep 27(APP): Member National Assembly and Convener, Parliamentary Taskforce on Sustainable Development Goals, Riaz Fatyana has said that Government has fully embraced the responsibility of lifting millions of people out of poverty through the largest poverty alleviation programme – Ehsaas
He was addressing the 12th South Asia Economic Summit (SAES XII), held here under the theme “Shaping South Asia’s Future in the Fourth Industrial Revolution”.
He highlighted that the Government of Pakistan has launched Pakistan Citizen Portal to timely address problems of the people and get their feedback. He further said that this programme would help the government to make policies based upon public feedback and suggestions, and their opinion would serve as springboard and thrust for such policies.
He underscored that Pakistan’s great asset is its young population that can be transformed into demographic dividend that drives economic growth. To achieve that, Pakistan is acting fast and strategically by improving health facilities, human resource development and poverty alleviation policies, he further said.
During the summit, the Executive Director, Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI), Dr. Abid Qaiyum Suleri, who is also a Member of Prime Minister of Pakistan’s Economic Advisory Council, said that today, South Asia is fastest growing region in the world, outperforming its historical competitors in East and the Pacific.
He added that the world is currently entering the fourth industrial revolution, affecting the way people live, work, do business and interact, therefore, benefits and pitfalls of Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) are significant for South Asian development countries.
