VIENNA, Dec 04(APP): Ambassador Aftab Ahmad Khokher emphasised that UNIDO should assist the Member States for transfer of clean and innovative technologies and arrangement of adequate and predictable financing for promotion of circular economy principles and practices.
Ambassador Aftab Ahmad Khokher, in his capacity as Head of Pakistan’s delegation, addressed the 19th session of General Conference of United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO). He appreciated UNIDO’s initiative of arranging Global Consultations on circular economy which offers a promising solution to some of the most pressing global challenges, particularly being faced by developing countries like Pakistan.
Recalling the challenges and pressures caused by the Covid-19 on industry, Ambassador Khokher underscored that UNIDO should guide and lead global economy through innovative ideas, practical solutions and result-oriented policy interventions for job creation and poverty alleviation.
Ambassador Khokher urged UNIDO to develop a climate strategy to enhance efficiency and effectiveness of its activities related to climate change which poses risks to the implementation of Agenda 2030. However, he emphasised that UNIDO should not lose focus from its core mandate of inclusive and sustainable industrial development.
He solicited UNIDO’s continued help for establishment of Investment and Technology Promotion Office (ITPO), Industrial Intelligence and Governance Unit and Medical Waste Management project in Pakistan.
