ISLAMABAD, Mar 7 (APP):Stressing women’s emancipation through financial stability, President Dr Arif Alvi Thursday said amendment in Hiba (gift) law was under consideration to safeguard the inheritance rights of women in the country.

Addressing at an event organized by Women’s Parliamentary Caucus (WPC) in connection with International Women’s Day, the President said the amendment would ensure that women retain their inherited property essentially for atleast one year, and thus not succumb to the undue pressure to gift their legal share to family members.

President Alvi said financially stable women, having complete awareness about their rights, were the torch bearer of a Naya Pakistan.

He urged upon the women parliamentarians to use the platform of WPC for policy-making relating to women’s issues particularly lack of access to education and health facilities.

He also lauded the role of women in strengthening democracy in the country. He further expressed that Islam has given due rights to women, children as well as monitories. “Islam has also given inheriting rights to women and people must give due rights to women ” he stated.
