ISLAMABAD, Dec 31 (APP): Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Information and Broadcasting, Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan on Tuesday said that government of Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaaf is taking serious steps to improve the socio-economic conditions of poor people of Pakistan. She expressed her views while briefing the media persons after the meeting of Federal Cabinet.
Highlighting various aspects of decisions of Federal Cabinet meeting, she said that a comprehensive and multi-dimensional poverty eradication program will be launched in coming weeks.
Edible items like flour, sugar, ghee, and pulses will be provided on subsidized rates through Utility Stores of Pakistan across the country and PM will soon launch this scheme worth six billion rupees, a subsidy for utility stores, she stated.
Financial assistance cards, health cards, Langar Khanas, shelter homes and many other programs are major steps towards uplifting the poor segments of society.
Regarding precarious human rights situation in Occupied Kashmir, Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan said the Cabinet passed a unanimous resolution condemning state oppression and brutalities on the people of Kashmir by the Indian security forces for last five months.
It urged the international community to take notice of the gross human rights violations in Occupied Kashmir. The cabinet also condemned Modi government’s tactics against minorities through discriminatory laws like Citizenship Amendment Act and National Register of Citizens.
She apprised the media that foreign investment has reached to 2006 million dollars.
“Prime Minister Imran Khan has declared 2020 a year of economic stability and several initiatives will be taken in the beginning of the New Year for the benefit of common people” she further added.
She also informed the media that the cabinet has given approval to make National College of Arts as an institute, having branches in all provinces.
Regarding amendments in National Accountability Ordinance, Firdous Ashiq Awan said the cabinet held a detailed discussion for the improvement of NAB laws and future roadmap. She said the Prime Minister especially urged the business community to invest in the country and help generating jobs for the youth.
To a question, the Special Assistant said that 800,000 ineligible people have been dropped from the list of BISP beneficiaries under a new survey.
