ISLAMABAD, March 7 (APP): Minister of State for Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage here Tuesday urged the media to create more awareness for women and make them aware on legislations that are for their rights and empowerment.
Speaking at the National Conference on Women in Media, she said the constitution and the government’s policy give women their due rights to end discrimination against them for empowering them. Women play important role in maintaining balance in the society and the time has come in Pakistan that the society should response to the importance of women.
Women do not have access to the information about their rights in most cases and the society should response on the laws regarding their rights to promote conducive environment for them, she added.
The conference, “Women in Media: Challenges and Success Stories” was arranged by National Press Club in collaboration with United Nations Information Centre (UNIC), British High Commission and Sustainable Development Goals to celebrate the International Women Day.
Speakers including, Director UNIC, Vittorio Cammarota, President National Press Club Shakeel Anjum, President Rawalpindi Islamabad Union of Journalists (RIUJ) Afzal Butt and women representatives from various media organisations shared their experiences for empowering women through different programmes.
Later recommendations were made to make women empowered by making environment more conducive for them, giving them special quota in jobs and representation in journalists unions.
