He said when his<br \/>\ngovernment came into power. the stock exchange index was around<br \/>\n19,000 while now it has gone up to 41,000 points and reflects the<br \/>\nrobust economy of the country.<br \/>\nPrime Minister Nawaz Sharif said the government revenues had<br \/>\nincreased by 60 percent, while the foreign exchange reserves were<br \/>\nat their highest level due to the government&#8217;s successful economic<br \/>\npolicies.<br \/>\nHe said international financial institutions had repeatedly<br \/>\npointed to the positive economic indicators, owing to the<br \/>\npolitical and economic stability.<br \/>\nNawaz Sharif said his government was committed to ridding<br \/>\nthe country of load shedding by the year 2018 and said today<br \/>\nthe industrial units were getting electricity and natural gas.<br \/>\nHe said efforts were afoot, not only to generate more<br \/>\nelectricity, but also to lower its tariffs so as to make<br \/>\nits products more competitive in international markets.<br \/>\nThe Prime Minister said country&#8217;s exports need to be<br \/>\nboosted and a number of measures were being taken in this<br \/>\nregard.<br \/>\nHe said Pakistan Railways needs to be upgraded urgently<br \/>\nto facilitate the industrial and business consumers.<br \/>\nHe said his government was working on a comprehensive<br \/>\nplan to enhance country&#8217;s air, road and rail network. He said<br \/>\nspecial measures have been taken to revive the national flag<br \/>\ncarrier &#8211; Pakistan International Airlines, and to make it one<br \/>\nof the best in the world.<br \/>\nThe Prime Minister said work on Lahore Karachi motorway<br \/>\nwas going ahead at a fast pace, and announced that he would<br \/>\nsoon lay the foundation stone of the Hyderabad-Sukkur motorway<br \/>\nsoon.<br \/>\nHe said work on other sections; Sukkur-Multan and<br \/>\nMultan-Lahore was going ahead at a fast pace.<br \/>\nHe said inter-connecting roads were being built across<br \/>\nthe country to help boost trade and business.<br \/>\nHe recalled the nationalization process in the &#8217;70s and<br \/>\nsaid it set back the country&#8217;s pace of progress. He said all<br \/>\nthese units managed to earn profits once they were privatised.<br \/>\nEarlier, Chairman Pakistan Stock Exchange Munir Kamal<br \/>\nsaid it was Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif&#8217;s second visit at<br \/>\nthe annual award ceremony in as many years and shows his<br \/>\ncommitment to this vital sector.<br \/>\nHe attributed the credit of award of Emerging Market<br \/>\nstatus, to Pakistan to the commitment and hard work of the<br \/>\npresent government and said there has been a major positive<br \/>\nchange in country&#8217;s stock markets since the PML-N government<br \/>\ncame into power.<br \/>\nHe termed establishment of PSX was a difficult task<br \/>\nand said international financial institutions were acknowledging<br \/>\nthe country&#8217;s robust economic growth and positive indicators.<br \/>\nHe said the 12th review of the International Monetary<br \/>\nFund has successfully culminated and added the political<br \/>\nstability has helped strengthen investors\u2019 confidence.<br \/>\nHe said the country has made great success against terrorism<br \/>\nand said the CPEC would prove to be a game changer for the<br \/>\nentire region.<br \/>\nAPP\/ Hamza<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>KARACHI, Sep 8 (APP): Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif on Thursday reiterated his government&#8217;s commitment to progress and development of Pakistan at a fast pace and said the nation must question those who were trying to push the country back to ages of darkness.
