{"id":119700,"date":"2019-07-20T00:04:49","date_gmt":"2019-07-19T19:04:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vid.app.com.pk\/vid\/?p=119700"},"modified":"2021-03-22T15:47:55","modified_gmt":"2021-03-22T10:47:55","slug":"pm-visit-to-washington-to-seek-reset-in-pakistan-us-relations-fm-qureshi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vid.app.com.pk\/vid\/2019\/07\/pm-visit-to-washington-to-seek-reset-in-pakistan-us-relations-fm-qureshi\/","title":{"rendered":"PM visit to Washington to seek reset in Pakistan-US relations: FM Qureshi"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"width: 696px;\" class=\"wp-video\"><video class=\"wp-video-shortcode\" id=\"video-119700-1\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\" preload=\"metadata\" controls=\"controls\"><source type=\"video\/mp4\" src=\"https:\/\/vid.app.com.pk\/vid\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/FM-Qureshi-Press-Confrence-1.mp4?_=1\" \/><a href=\"https:\/\/vid.app.com.pk\/vid\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/FM-Qureshi-Press-Confrence-1.mp4\">https:\/\/vid.app.com.pk\/vid\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/FM-Qureshi-Press-Confrence-1.mp4<\/a><\/video><\/div>\n<p>WASHINGTON, Jul 19 (APP): Prime Minister\u2019s visit to Washington this week seeks a reset in Pakistan-U.S. ties with a focus on expanding bilateral cooperation in place of the Afghanistan-centered relations of the last several years, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are here to reset our bilateral relationship,\u201d the foreign minister told a press briefing ahead of Prime Minister Khan\u2019s arrival in the U.S. capital for a visit on the invitation of President Donald Trump.<\/p>\n<p>Qureshi said Prime Minister\u2019s July 22 talks with President Trump at the White House will highlight the points of convergence where cooperation can be mutually beneficial.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want to take forward an environment of trust and cooperation that has developed between the two countries from a low point in the ties.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe relationship has moved from coercion to cooperation,\u201d Qureshi said, referring to meetings between chief diplomats of the two countries and the Trump Administration\u2019s praise for Pakistan&#8217;s role toward pushing Afghan peace process.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have a realistic and pragmatic approach to Pakistan-US relations.\u00a0 I do not want to raise unrealistic expectations.\u00a0 The basis is going to be honesty.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Besides a meeting between PM Khan and President Trump, the two sides will have extended discussions at the White House.<\/p>\n<p>Pakistan\u2019s Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa will also accompany Prime Minister Imran Khan to bilateral engagements during the visit.<\/p>\n<p>He said the Imran Khan government was not begging for aid but wants to cement economic and investment cooperation. \u201cWe will not compromise on Pakistan\u2019s national interests,\u201d Qureshi said.<\/p>\n<p>Qureshi listed a number of areas of convergence between Islamabad and Washington including desire for peace in Afghanistan and a peaceful South Asia. In this context, Qureshi acknowledged US role on defusing Pakistan-India standoff in the wake of Pulwama attacks.<\/p>\n<p>Thirdly, he said, Pakistan wants a mutually beneficial economic relationship with the Untied States and Prime Minister Imran Khan would showcase Pakistan\u2019s investment potential.<\/p>\n<p>He also referred to Pakistan\u2019s relations with China and said Pakistan was open to US investment in China Pakistan Economic Corridor.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey are welcome to come and invest,\u201d he said of the possibility of US being part of the investments in economic zones. Pakistan&#8217;s Ambassador to the United States Asad M Khan was also present during the press briefing.<\/p>\n<p>During the visit, Prime Minister Imran Khan would address a gathering of Pakistani community in D.C., have a meeting with Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, meet Senate Foreign Relations Committee and address members of US Pakistan Business Council.
