The joint committee on CPEC would consider the<br \/>\nproject in its next meeting, he informed.<br \/>\nHe said that work on Rashakae and Faisalabad trade zones was also in<br \/>\nprogress. The entire work on western corridor of the CPEC has been<br \/>\ncarried out by PTI government while during previous governments the<br \/>\nimportant segment of the project was marred by conflicts and confusions,<br \/>\nhe said.<br \/>\nOn a question regarding Karachi Package, Asad Umar informed that most of<br \/>\nthe projects would be completed in current year as federal government<br \/>\nwas actively pursuing the projects under Rs.1100 billion Karachi<br \/>\ndevelopment package.<br \/>\nThe busses under mass transit project Green Line would start plying on<br \/>\nroads of metropolis in August this year, the minister said and added<br \/>\nthat design of Karachi Circular Railway was completed as well and work<br \/>\ncould be started by the end of the year.<br \/>\nInitial work on Karachi Trade Corridor- another important project for<br \/>\nlaying a dedicated railway line from Karachi port to Pipri with<br \/>\nestimated cost of Rs.130 billion- started as well and it was expected<br \/>\nthat tenders of the project under BOT mode would be floated this year,<br \/>\nplanning minister informed.<br \/>\nWAPDA resumed work on K-IV project that was suspended since previous two<br \/>\nyears and its completion might be achieved in second half of 2021, he<br \/>\nclaimed.<br \/>\nThe federal government took responsibility of improving rain water<br \/>\ndrainage system of Karachi with a focus on Mehmoodabad, Korangi and<br \/>\nGujar Nullah and work was in full swing, he said adding that<br \/>\nencroachments has been removed, compensation amount had been paid to<br \/>\naffected population of\u00a0 Mehmoodabad.<br \/>\nAsad Umar while terming the electricity as a major issue of Karachi said<br \/>\nfederal government committed to add 900 megawatt in K-Electric\u2019s system<br \/>\nbut it was going to add more than one thousand mega watt as 450 megawatt<br \/>\nproject of KE would be commissioned in May while NTDC would be able to<br \/>\nprovide additional 650 megawatt as well.<br \/>\nRationalization of electricity price for industrial sector by PTI<br \/>\ngovernment has accelerated industrial activities while large scale<br \/>\nmanufacturing sector has seen a record growth over 10 percent, he<br \/>\nclaimed and added that besides increased production of car and cement<br \/>\nmanufacturing, first time in history of Pakistan quantum of monthly<br \/>\nexports remained above $ 2 billion for consecutive 7 months.<br \/>\nOn a query about trade with India, the federal minister cleared that<br \/>\nPrime Minister Imran Khan has taken a principled step and directed to<br \/>\nexplore alternate avenues for expansion of regional trade instead of<br \/>\nrelying on bilateral trade with eastern neighbouring country as<br \/>\noppressive actions of India in illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir<br \/>\ncould not be overlooked.<br \/>\nOn a question about value of Rupee against US dolor Asad Umar said PTI<br \/>\nthrough its prudential policies stabilized the exchange rate and value<br \/>\nof dolor fallen to Rs. 152 from 168 without spending a single rupee of<br \/>\nforeign exchange reserves.<br \/>\nOn a query regarding COVID-19 measures Asad Umar said that he support<br \/>\ndecision of Sindh government for closing markets on weekends and said<br \/>\nthat such measures were necessary to reduce the risks and keep number of<br \/>\npatients lower.<br \/>\nEconomic sector vulnerable to coronavirus needed to be closed to save<br \/>\nprecious lives as without timely measures all the sectors of economy<br \/>\ncould suffer more, he said adding that government was cognizant of<br \/>\nissues being faced by business and industry particularly the labor force<br \/>\ndue to lockdowns but every citizen has to play individual role in this<br \/>\nsituation.<br \/>\nReplying to another question Asad Umar was optimistic that Pakistan<br \/>\nSteel Mills could be made fully operational and profitable entity and<br \/>\nthere was no reason to shut it down. Four international companies have<br \/>\nexpressed interest in that regard, he added.<br \/>\nEarlier, president FPCCI, Mian Nasir Hayat Maggo, in his welcome address<br \/>\nhighlighted different issues being faced by business and industrial<br \/>\ncommunities and suggested to redesign and reform taxation system of<br \/>\ncountry with paradigm shift towards maximum facilitation of taxpayer.<br \/>\nTax rates on imports be rationalized and FBR be made more responsive, he<br \/>\nsuggested and added that, power sector particularly issues of<br \/>\nelectricity sector needed special attention.
