{"id":27683,"date":"2017-05-05T17:42:53","date_gmt":"2017-05-05T17:42:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/vid.app.com.pk\/vid\/?p=27683"},"modified":"2017-05-05T17:42:53","modified_gmt":"2017-05-05T17:42:53","slug":"films-defeat-extremism-intolerance-promote-culture-national-heritage-marriyum","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vid.app.com.pk\/vid\/2017\/05\/films-defeat-extremism-intolerance-promote-culture-national-heritage-marriyum\/","title":{"rendered":"Films defeat extremism, intolerance, promote culture, national heritage: Marriyum"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"width: 696px;\" class=\"wp-video\"><video class=\"wp-video-shortcode\" id=\"video-27683-1\" width=\"696\" height=\"557\" preload=\"metadata\" controls=\"controls\"><source type=\"video\/x-flv\" src=\"http:\/\/vid.app.com.pk\/vid\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Mariyum-Aurangzaib-Pakistan-Film-Policy-2017-@-Khi-05-05-17.flv?_=1\" \/><a href=\"http:\/\/vid.app.com.pk\/vid\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Mariyum-Aurangzaib-Pakistan-Film-Policy-2017-@-Khi-05-05-17.flv\">http:\/\/vid.app.com.pk\/vid\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Mariyum-Aurangzaib-Pakistan-Film-Policy-2017-@-Khi-05-05-17.flv<\/a><\/video><\/div>\n<p>KARACHI May 5 (APP): Minister of State for Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage, Ms Marriyum Aurangzeb in her inaugural address to the Consultative Conference at Karachi convened for the formulation of the first ever national policy on Film, Production and Broadcast said<br \/>\nthat the Government would take the ownership of the Industry in line with the vision of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif who was very keen to set into motion an effective process for its revival.<br \/>\nShe said that the purpose of the consultative process was to ascertain the views of all the stakeholders and seek their input with a view to evolve a policy which was comprehensive in scope and could help in achieving the desired objectives.<br \/>\nMarriyum said that Pakistan had a very vibrant and thriving film industry in the sixties and seventies which served as an effective forum not only<br \/>\nto provide entertainment to the masses but also to reinforce the cultural values and the<br \/>\nnational heritage that had a galvanizing impact on national<br \/>\nintegration and unity.<br \/>\nShe lamented the fact that the industry failed to counter<br \/>\nthe onslaught of the other mediums like internet and<br \/>\nthe digital technologies in the absence of patronage at the<br \/>\nofficial level and a pragmatic strategy to deal with<br \/>\nthe emerging challenges.<br \/>\nThe continuous nosedive and decline in the film industry was<br \/>\na great national loss in terms of ideological moorings as the new developments obscured the role of the film and broadcast production in promoting and strengthening cultural values and the national<br \/>\nheritage, she added.<br \/>\nThe minister observed that the emergence of fissiparous<br \/>\ntendencies in the society and the narratives of religious<br \/>\nextremism and terrorism over the last 35 years were<br \/>\nundoubtedly the disastrous consequences of the absence of a<br \/>\npowerful medium like films to help in the development of a<br \/>\ncredible and effective counter-narrative. She said though some<br \/>\nbrave and enterprising elements were still in the business but<br \/>\ntheir efforts were not enough in the prevailing<br \/>\ndebilitating environment.<br \/>\nMarriyum said that Pakistanis were a resilient nation and<br \/>\nthe armed forces of the country and its people had<br \/>\ngiven unparalleled sacrifices for eliminating the scourge of<br \/>\nterrorism but the Prime Minister felt that only the military muscle<br \/>\nof the state was not enough to take the fight against<br \/>\nreligious extremism and terrorism to its logical conclusion and it<br \/>\nneeded to be supplemented by an ideological counter-narrative<br \/>\nto challenge the narrative of the enemies of the country. She said<br \/>\nthat in the estimation of the Prime Minister films were the<br \/>\nmost powerful medium to achieve that objective and a<br \/>\ncomprehensive policy for the revival and development of film,<br \/>\nproduction and broadcast policy was needed, she added.<br \/>\nShe said because of the permeating culture of religious extremism, terrorism and intolerance, the image of the country had been<br \/>\nbadly tarnished in the comity of nations as well, but our first<br \/>\npriority was to set the things right on the internal front which<br \/>\nwould also help us in dealing with the image problem at the international level.<br \/>\nThe minister told the audience that the consultative conference<br \/>\nhad been convened to pursue a common goal which was the revival of<br \/>\nthe film industry and expressed the hope that a policy evolved<br \/>\nthrough the collective wisdom of all the stakeholders would<br \/>\nsurely witness the re-emergence of a strong and dynamic film<br \/>\nand broadcast production industry in the country that would go a long<br \/>\nway in fostering national unity, countering divisive<br \/>\nand disruptive narratives and refurbishing the image of the country<br \/>\nat the global level.<br \/>\nThe inaugural session was attended by governor Sindh<br \/>\nMuhammad Zubair, Senator Nihal Hashmi, film producers,<br \/>\nartists, exhibitors, distributors and other stakeholders associated with film and broadcast production industry.<br \/>\nLater talking to the media persons the minister said films would be used to strengthen national unity and stability, introducing the<br \/>\nPakistani culture and heritage at the global level and to create awareness among the people against religious extremism and terrorism.<br \/>\nShe said extremism and terrorism that had proliferated during<br \/>\nthe last 35 years had promoted a culture of intolerance in the<br \/>\nsociety which needed to be neutralized and films were the<br \/>\nmedium through which that objective could be achieved.<br \/>\nShe said the objective of the film policy was to highlight<br \/>\nthe positive aspects of our national life and culture as well as<br \/>\nto provide healthy entertainment to the youth.<br \/>\nThe minister told the media men that PTV was soon launching<br \/>\na separate entertainment channel for children .She said that PTV academy would also commence a country-wide talent hunt for the industry.<br \/>\nShe said the government wanted to project real identity of<br \/>\nPakistan at the international level.
