{"id":31317,"date":"2017-07-06T14:53:40","date_gmt":"2017-07-06T14:53:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/vid.app.com.pk\/vid\/?p=31317"},"modified":"2021-03-22T15:50:55","modified_gmt":"2021-03-22T10:50:55","slug":"pakistan-hopeful-of-early-completion-of-casa-1000-to-meet-its-energy-shortfall","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vid.app.com.pk\/vid\/2017\/07\/pakistan-hopeful-of-early-completion-of-casa-1000-to-meet-its-energy-shortfall\/","title":{"rendered":"Pakistan hopeful of early completion of CASA-1000 to meet its energy shortfall"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"width: 696px;\" class=\"wp-video\"><video class=\"wp-video-shortcode\" id=\"video-31317-1\" width=\"696\" height=\"522\" preload=\"metadata\" controls=\"controls\"><source type=\"video\/x-flv\" src=\"http:\/\/vid.app.com.pk\/vid\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/PM-meets-with-Quadrilateral-meeting-of-CASA-.flv?_=1\" \/><a href=\"http:\/\/vid.app.com.pk\/vid\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/PM-meets-with-Quadrilateral-meeting-of-CASA-.flv\">http:\/\/vid.app.com.pk\/vid\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/PM-meets-with-Quadrilateral-meeting-of-CASA-.flv<\/a><\/video><\/div>\n<p>PUGUS (Tajikistan), July 6 (APP): The leaders of Pakistan, Tajikistan,<br \/>\nAfghanistan and Kyrgyzstan met here Thursday to review the progress on the US 1.2 billion dollar CASA-1000 project and vowed to take all measures for its early completion.<br \/>\nThe quadrilateral project would allow export of 1300 MW of Central<br \/>\nAsian electricity to Afghanistan and Pakistan by 2018.<br \/>\nBesides the Prime Minister, the Quadrilateral meeting of CASA-1000<br \/>\nwas attended by President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, President of Afghanistan Ashraf Ghani and Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbay Jeenbekov.<br \/>\nThe leaders gathered here at the mountainous resort, 36 kms from<br \/>\nDushanbe, and along the gushing waters of the Varzob river, discussed the ambitious project that would generate clean electricity through immense hydel resources.<br \/>\nThe leaders had launched the project in May 2016, terming it a<br \/>\n\u201cwin-win and mutually rewarding\u201d for all stakeholder states.<br \/>\nAlthough conceived long ago, the government of Prime Minister Nawaz<br \/>\nSharif took the initiative to expedite the project leading to the historic agreement in Istanbul.<br \/>\nPrime Minister Nawaz Sharif termed CASA-1000 a flagship project in the<br \/>\nregion, and said upon completion would bring a number of economic, social and environmental benefits to member countries.<br \/>\nHe said it would reduce the energy deficit, create jobs, improve trade<br \/>\nand reduce carbon dioxide emissions, besides contributing to regional integration.<br \/>\n\u201cWe must make efforts to ensure that the project is completed well in<br \/>\ntime,\u201d the Prime Minister said.<br \/>\nPrime Minister Nawaz Sharif termed the project \u201can important step\u201d<br \/>\ntowards realization of the planned Central Asia South Asia Regional Electricity Market (CASAREM).<br \/>\n\u201cIt will be a good example of promoting cooperation between energy-<br \/>\ndeficient South Asia and energy-rich Central Asia,\u201d he said.<br \/>\nHe expressed the hope that the CASA-1000 Power Project would not only<br \/>\nbring revenues to Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan but also mitigate electricity shortages in Pakistan and Afghanistan and increase prospects for growth.<br \/>\nHe reiterated commitment of the Government of Pakistan to the early<br \/>\nimplementation of the project.<br \/>\n\u201cWe need energy for socio-economic development in Pakistan and to run<br \/>\nour industrial sector to its full potential\u201d he said.<br \/>\nHe hoped it would help in generating employment and uplift standard of<br \/>\nliving of the people of Pakistan.<br \/>\nHe said CASA-1000 would also be a source of revenue for Afghanistan<br \/>\nand open up greater business and investment opportunities.<br \/>\nPrime Minister Sharif said it was heartening to know that five<br \/>\ncompanies, all leading manufacturers like ABB, Seimens, Alstonetc, have submitted bids for convertor stations to be setup at the end of the transmission line.<br \/>\nHe said tenders had been floated for transmission lines from<br \/>\nKyrgyzstan to Tajikistan and from Tajikistan to Afghanistan and were being evaluated.<br \/>\n\u201cI hope that work on these transmission lines would begin very soon,\u201d<br \/>\nthe Prime Minister said.<br \/>\nHe also extended gratitude to President Emomali Rahmon and his<br \/>\ndedicated team for excellent arrangements for the briefing session and work accomplished since launching of CASA-1000 Power Project last year.<br \/>\nThe CASA-1000 project is scheduled for completion by 2018 under the<br \/>\numbrella of the World Bank. Tajikistan share in the energy export will be 70<br \/>\npercent while Kyrgyzstan will export 30 percent of electricity. Afghanistan will consume 300 MW of the exported energy while Pakistan will receive 1000 MW electricity.<br \/>\nThe project is expected to boost energy trade in the region and would<br \/>\nlead to sustainable development.<br \/>\nPakistan will get a share of 1,000MW of electricity while Afghanistan<br \/>\nwill get 300MW. The 750-km-long transmission line from Tajikistan would pass through Afghanistan.<br \/>\nUnder the project, a total of 1,300MW will be produced by Tajikistan<br \/>\nand Kyrgyzstan and would allow over 5 billion kilowatt-hours power for Pakistan and Afghanistan annually.<br \/>\nTajikistan has surplus hydel electricity generation in summer with<br \/>\nonly five per cent of it being used, while the rest can be used to benefit the neighbouring countries.<br \/>\nTajikistan tops Central Asia for hydro energy resources. Its 948<br \/>\nrivers have a total length of 28,500 km. It has half of Central Asia\u2019s ice-covered land with over 8,000 glaciers.<br \/>\nTajikistan\u2019s two main rivers provide Tajikistan with almost 60 percent<br \/>\nof entire regions water resources and constitute almost 4 percent of world\u2019s total hydropower potential meaning.<br \/>\nThe transmission line originating from the Kyrgyz substation at Datka<br \/>\nwill run through Tajikistan\u2019s substations of Sughda, Dushanbe, Regar and Sangtuda and then pass through Afghanistan to Pakistan with a converter station at Nowshera.<br \/>\nThe Prime Minister is on a two-day visit to Tajkistan and is<br \/>\naccompanied by his Adviser on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz, Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Asif and Minister for Commerce Khurram Dastagir.\/ VNS, TAJIKISTAN<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>PUGUS (Tajikistan), July 6 (APP): The leaders of Pakistan, Tajikistan, Afghanistan and Kyrgyzstan met here Thursday to review the progress on the US 1.2 billion dollar CASA-1000 project and vowed to take all measures for its early completion.
