Pakistan National Day celebrations at Beirut Embassy

BEIRUT March 23 (APP): The Embassy of Pakistan in Beirut Thursday commenced a weeklong programme of Pakistan National Day celebrations last night through an amazing and thrilling live performance of Pakistani musicians. The performance was hosted by Music Conservatory of Lebanon at one of the oldest, renowned and historic Saint Joseph University in Beirut. The music was played by Pakistan’s famous, well recognized and accomplished artists namely Ustad Ajmal Khan on Tabla, Akbar Khameeso Khan on Alghoza, Khalid Mehmood on Banjo, Shabih Sen on Sitar, Salman Adil on Flute,  Ghulam Khel on Rubab, Muhammad Khan on Dholak, Shehryar Bakhshi on Guitar and Nadir Hussain on Dhol.

Dr Walid Musallam, Director of the Conservatory, in his welcoming remarks, said that it was a unique opportunity to host and listen Pakistani music by live performance. He appreciated Pakistan’s rich culture and underlined the importance of enhancing cultural collaboration between Lebanon and Pakistan and bringing people closer to each other.

Ambassador Aftab Khokher, in his opening remarks, highlighted the history of 23 March. He paid tribute to Allama Iqbal and Quaid-e-Azam for their visionary leadership. He said that Pakistani musicians were invited to Lebanon to demonstrate Pakistan’s rich art and culture. He appreciated the Lebanese people for their devotion to music as part of their lives.

The National Day celebrations’ programme include performances at National Day reception tomorrow (23 March) and subsequently at the leading Lebanese universities namely Beirut Arab University (Tripoli campus) on 24 March, American University of Technology (Byblos campus) on 25 March and American University of Beirut on 26 March. The last performance will be hosted by Muncipality of Majdal Anjar on 27 March 2017.
