ISLAMABAD, February 26 (APP): Minister for Education Shafaqat Mehmood Tuesday said that the international conference will cement the organization’s earlier initiatives for peace building as well as open doors for more. He said that the media’s role is crucial in a conflict that is why there has always been a pressing need to standardize and professionalize conflict reporting.

He expressed these while addressing International Conference on Media and Conflict (ICMC) at Bahria University organized by Pakistan Peace Collective (PPC) – a research and advocacy body of the ministry of information and broadcasting.

The conference is the first government lead academic initiative in the country which seeks to highlight and assess the Pakistani media’s role in covering conflict and violence in the country.

Rector Bahria University, Vice Admiral (Retired) Muhammad Shafiq thanked worthy guests and highlighted the role of university for grooming students’ intellectual knowledge especially in the field of media studies.

Chief Executive Officer, Pakistan Peace Collective Mr. Shabir Anwar, highlighted the goals of the conference. He said that Pakistan Peace Collective is working on introducing an integrated curriculum on peace studies across Pakistan to serve the purpose, he added.

The conference features global scholars like Dr. Johan Galtung, founder Peace Research Institute Norway, Dr. Rune Ottosen, Oslo Metropolitan University Norway, Dr. Elizebeth Eide Oslo Metropolitan University Norway, Dr. Jake Lynch University of Sydney Australia, Mr. Owen Bennett Jones Senior Journalist and other celebrated names from Pakistan’s academic and media landscape.

The concluding session will be held tomorrow on 27th February, 2019 which will be chaired by Chairman Senate of Pakistan, Mr. Muhammad Sadiq Sanjrani with a number of cabinet members and parliamentarians attending the event.
