Islamabad Dec 12(APP): Information Minister Fawad Hussain Chaudhry has said that it is the first time in the country’s history that fair and transparent accountability is being carried out across the board.
Responding to the points of former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on the arrest of PML-N leader Khawaja Saad Rafique, he said the opposition is not doing any favor to the system by trying to make the accountability process controversial. He said NAB is an independent institution and it is working sans any influence. He said the courts and the NAB should be allowed to perform duties as per their mandate.
Fawad Chaudhry said the people want accountability of the corrupt elements and the PTI government will move forward as per their expectations. He also made it clear the government will not interfere in the accountability process initiated by National Accountability Bureau and other institutions against the corrupt elements.
He said those who plundered the national exchequer over the last ten years will have to be held accountable. He regretted the opposition is now finding flaws in the NAB laws when they are being brought to task under the law.
About bringing improvement in the NAB laws, the Information Minister said a task force headed by the law Minister has been constituted and it has also held sittings with the opposition on the matter.
The Information Minister pointed out that the current set up in NAB including its chairman was appointed by the previous government.
He said the cases against PML-N leaders were also registered when Nawaz Sharif and Shahid Khaqan Abbasi were the chief executives of the country.
Fawad Chaudhry said PML-N leader was arrested by the NAB when the Lahore High Court cancelled his bail petition.
