Lok Mela to entertain Islooites with over 500 artistes, craft persons

ISLAMABAD, Apr 6 (APP): Over 500 artists, singers and artisans would participate and represent cultural values at annual Lok Mela starting here from April 7 at National Institute of Folk and Traditional Heritage, Lok Virsa.

Executive Director Lok Virsa, Dr Fouzia Saeed in a press briefing on Thursday said the popular cultural festival of federal capital Lok Mela is annually organised as a grand event with colourful performances by folk artists, showcasing dynamic rural life and cultural heritage of all provinces of Pakistan at Shakarparian.

The grand celebration includes Live Theatre, artisans at work, traditional apparel, food, music and cultural dance as main focus of the audience.

Cultural pavilions of all four provinces along with Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu Kashmir will be established in the Lok Mela. Where folk artists from across the country would converge to the cultural fare to enthrall the visitors during the 10-day Lok Mela.

Dr Fouzia Saeed said the festival would bring cultures and civilizations of all regions of the country under one roof.

Folk artists from the four provinces, including Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan will also perform during ten days festival.

She added that this unique event has now become a symbol of the federation and patronage to rich cultural diversity and active participation of the people.

She said cash awards will be given to master artisans in recognition of their craftsmanship. The festival will continue till 16 April.
