Netball Championship 2019 inaugurated


ISLAMABAD, March 29 (APP):Parliamentary Secretary Inter Provincial Coordination (IPC), Syma Nadeem and Principal Information Officer of ministry of information, Mian Jahangir Iqbal inaugurated the 18th National Men and Women Netball Championship 2019 here at Sports Complex on Friday.

Speaking on the occasion, Syma Nadeem said that Prime Minister Imran Khan had been promoting sports in the country and as he himself was a sportsman.

She extended support to Minister for Inter Provincial Coordination Dr Fahmida Mirza and Sports Board for the promotion of sports activities in the country.

Jahangir Iqbal said he himself was a basketball player and felt good to see that games like netball were becoming popular among boys and and girls.

He said he was hopeful that the day was not far off when sportsmen would retain glory in different sports.

Sixteen teams from all over the country were participating in the championship including Pakistan Army, Pakistan Wapda, Pakistan Air Force, Pakistan Navy, Pakistan Railway, Pakistan Police, Higher Education Commission (HEC),  provinces,  Azad Kahsmir, Islamabad,  Gilgit Baltistan and Pakistan Sports Board.

On the opening day, seven matches were decided in the 18th National Men and Women Netball Championship at Hameedi Hall, Pakistan Sports Complex, here. The final match of the championship will be played on April 2.

Chairman Pakistan Netball Federation, Capt (R)  Zafar Iqbal Awan,  Mudassar Arain, President Islamabad Netball Association Madassar Arain, Vice President  Malik Muhammad Sameen Khan, Secretary Women Wing Muniba Usman and a large number of peoples were also present on the occasion. The top five teams would qualify for National Games 2019 to be held in Quetta.
