ISLAMABAD, Apr 10 (APP):The National Assembly Standing Committee on States and Frontier Regions (SAFRON) on Wednesday discussed the status of 5,816 clerical staff in Levies and Khasadar Force, merged into Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police department.
The committee that met with Sajid Khan in the chair, was briefed that a total strength of 47,659 Levies, Khasadar and clerical staff have been merged into Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police and now total strength of provincial police has reached to 2,350000.
Secretary SAFRON Muhammad while briefing the committee said that nomenclature and service cadre of employees cannot be changed and federal government has issued directions for facilitating Levies without withdrawing any benefits already given.
He said after merger now there is one policeman available for 150 people in province. “Both the forces were under administrative control of SAFRON and after merger their financial and administrative control has been transferred to provincial administration”, he added.
Regarding the promotion of Levies to the higher ranks, the committee was informed that existing employees might not fulfill the criteria, but in future it will be made sure that hiring criteria of police department is followed.
Member committee Ali Wazir said that employees were not getting salary for eight months. Responding to a question, secretary informed that ministry had given directions to transfer the salaries in the bank accounts using online mechanism. “The delay in salary was due to non-compliance of the directions”, he informed.
The committee directed the ministry to invite Inspector General of Police Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in its next meeting to brief about the promotion mechanism and deployment of merged staff.
The committee decided to have its next meeting in Peshawar to have detailed briefing from Planning and Development Department (P&D) on identification of development schemes of merged districts and sub divisions.
