Islamabad, March 5 (APP): The National Assembly Standing Committee on Housing and Works welcomes the release of funds by Finance Division to Ministry of Housing and Works on account of development schemes of Hon. MNAs for the financial year 2019-20 under Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Program.

The Standing Committee on Housing and Works met today at the Parliament House with Engr. Muhammad Najeeb Haroon, MNA in the chair.

During the course of discussion on agenda item regarding release of funds for development schemes of Hon. MNAs belonging to the Sindh Province for the financial year 2019-20 under SDGs Program, the Committee was informed by Secretary, Ministry of Housing and Works, that the Finance Division has released the said funds today and now the development schemes in question would be executed accordingly. The Committee termed the release a tardy action however welcomed it with the remarks that the funds in question should be utilized for execution of development schemes of all the Hon. MNAs irrespective of their party affiliations.

The Standing Committee was also informed by the Ministry of Housing and Works that ground breaking ceremony of housing projects worth Rs. 100 billion to accommodate the Federal Government Employees was going to be held on 11th of March, 2020, wherein the Hon. Prime Minister of Pakistan would be the chief guest. The Committee while appreciating the initiative, directed the Ministry that oversight of all such projects should be ensured.

The Standing Committee was also informed by the Ministry of Housing and Works that following the directions of the Hon. Supreme Court of Pakistan, surveys of Federal Government Owned Accommodations were being carried out by the Estate Office in order to ascertain as to whether these were under occupation by any trespassers. The Committee directed the Ministry to provide copy of the said surveys for perusal of Hon. Members.

The Standing Committee while recommending the budgetary proposals of Ministry of Housing and Works and its attached departments/sub-ordinate offices relating to Public Sector Development Program (PSDP) for inclusion in the Federal Budget 2020-21, directed that all those projects where more than 70% work has been done should be given priority.

Besides the Hon. Minister for Housing & Works, Parliamentary Secretary, Housing & Works, the meeting was attended by Mr. Mehboob Shah, Malik Anwar Taj, Malik Karamat Ali Khokhar, Makhdoom Syed Sami-ul-Hassan Gillani, Ch. Javed Iqbal Warraich, Ms. Nafeesa Inayatullah Khan Khattak, Ms. Wajiha Akram, Mr. Salahuddin, Mr. Muhammad Israr Tareen, Chaudhry Abid Raza, Syed Iftikhar Ul Hassan, Mr. Azhar Qayyum Nahra, Ms. Tahira Aurangzeb, Ms. Seema Mohiuddin Jameeli, Syed Agha Rafiullah and Mr. Munir Khan Orakzai, MNAs/Members. The senior officers of Ministry of Housing and Works, Finance Division, Federal Government Employees Housing Authority, Pak-PWD and Estate Office were also present in the meeting.
